Common Decency
Recently, President Trump tested positive for COVID-19 and briefly checked in to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, DC. The way some responded to this news was pretty disgusting. Regardless of one’s party, I think it’s unacceptable to wish poor health on a political opponent. Political adversaries are engaged in a battle of ideas, and the battle is won by making the strongest case to voters. If you have a weak case, you can’t replace it by wishing harm on your opponent. I challenge anyone – Republican or Democrat – if you’re struggling to persuade others to agree with your positions, don’t wish ill will on your opponents. Instead, look inward and see if your argument is truly as strong as you think.
